An Overview of Lead Academy
South Africa stands at a defining moment in our history. Our nation is rich with potential, yet faces the massive challenges of leadership, integrity, and renewal. The Church in South Africa needs to be, can be, the catalyst for that renewal. When healthy churches grow and healthy churches are planted, the renewal of society happens – slowly but surely, church by church, neighbourhood by neighbourhood.
The AOG Group in South Africa is in a phase of expansion and growth and our churches are growing and new churches are being planted. In fact, our Group churches represent people in every province, in every racial group and in every economic group in South Africa!
As we embark on the next era of growth and planting and expansion, we urgently need to develop Christian leaders to lead new, healthy, growing churches.
And as our reach expands across the country, the diversity of our leaders is also increasing. This presents a magnificent opportunity for us to develop high quality leaders. However, at the same time, many of our future leaders come from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.
Our dream is to open the doors for every single leader in our pipeline to receive world class leadership training and development that would ordinarily have been out of their reach economically.

Primary Student Focus
Lead Academy would be most relevant for:
Emerging Church Leaders – Existing staff, and key volunteers recognised by their pastors as having a Romans 12:8 leadership gifting for campus or senior leadership.
Marketplace Leaders – Key volunteers in marketplace professions who sense a calling into ministry and church leadership.
Existing Senior Pastors – Who have both a need and the desire to develop their leadership to a new level.
Student Identity
Students that will thrive will be warm, authentic, passionate and humble.
They will be people who will reflect our five key values of Humility, Intentionality, Community, Curiosity & Integrity.
They will be the kind of people that give themselves fully and passionately to the learning journey. Most importantly, they will be humble, teachable and curious.
Learning Focus Areas
Lead Academy’s focus is on developing leaders towards becoming highly skilled and deeply formed:
Highly Skilled: A deeper understanding of the most important leadership competencies involved in leading church.
Lead Academy will also faciliatate an understanding of the key factors to consider in church craft, and how to structure services and church life in wonderfully life-giving ways.
Deeply Formed: The teaching and practice of some important concepts that deeply influence our personal formation into the likeness of Christ.
What We Believe
AOG Group
The AOG Group forms part of the Assemblies of God, South Africa.
Our Group consists of life-giving churches that are self-governing by nature, while being accountable to (and in relationship with) its National Leadership Team. This team provides thought leadership, ministry oversight, apostolic leadership and spiritual covering. As Group churches, we are committed to unity in diversity, and we are committed to supporting one another in our efforts to spread the gospel in South Africa and Africa.
Our churches are vibrant and contemporary in nature, with a heart for authentic worship and practical bible-based teaching. We are absolutely passionate about the beauty, power and potential of the local church and the transformative effect it should have upon the surrounding culture. And we do believe that the local church is God’s plan A for the establishment of God’s kingdom here and now, in our world. Our greatest desire is to see the local church be effective in helping people from all walks of life come to know God, find freedom, discover their purpose, and make a difference in their world.
